How to start with the match?
Rummy is essentially a card game, played with two Jokers and decks of cards. In this game, a player who can skilfully declare what cards they want to pick or discard between these two decks has a higher chance of winning. Amongst the two card piles, one is always a closed deck, and the other an open deck. The closed deck is face down, meaning the players cannot see what kind of cards they are picking up, while the open deck is formed by the cards that get discarded by the players during the match. To win the game, each player has to group the cards in hand in valid sets and sequences.
The values of each card
Unlike many other card games, in Rummy, the cards rank in an ascending order. The lowest card in the deck is an Ace, and the value keeps on increasing thereafter, with 1, 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, Jack, Queen, King and King, Ace, Jack, Queen being the correct sequence. Each King in a deck has 10 points. On the other hand, the other cards follow their face value. For instance, 5 cards will have 5 points and so on and so forth.

The main objective of the game is to arrange all 13 cards in a proper sequence or set. To make sure you have the winning hand, you will have to make at least 2 sequences, out of which one has to be a pure sequence, while the others can be any kind of valid set or sequence. Without a proper sequence, no player can make any valid rummy declaration. This is one of the most important and necessary rules a player needs to know before indulging in a game.
How can you form the sequences?
A sequence in this game essentially means a set of three or more cards of the same suit. There are usually two types of sequences a player can make, a pure sequence and an impure one. A pure sequence contains a group of three or more cards of a similar suit in consecutive order. However, the player cannot use a wild card or the Joker to make a pure sequence. An impure sequence is there is a group of 4 or more cards of the same suit but with Joker cards. Contrary to that, a set is when you have a group of cards with the same value, but from different suits, including Jokers and wild cards.
How to play?
Rummy can be played between 2 to 6 people and requires 2 decks of cards. Each player will be given 13 cards at the beginning of the game and a random Joker or wild card. The player will then have to draw and discard cards from their pile to make a valid sequence of 13 cards in hand. As per Indian rummy rules, once the player has arranged all 13 cards in 2 sequences, one of them being pure, they can make the declaration and win the game.
